The movie star, and now artist, Sharon Stone has made a new series of paintings—with the help of a few ghosts. For Rogues Gallery, Stone looked to the afterlife for inspiration, evoking famed painters such as Hilma af Klint, who embraced spiritualism. “These never-before-seen works created by Stone are powerful, haunting portraits of the spirits of people from different eras that she recently started to channel while painting,” says a project statement. Stone throws light on her method, explaining how the work Him (2025) took shape. “He was an enslaved person who drowned in the East China Sea on a slave ship. He had a very hard time talking to me, because as an enslaved person he was not allowed to talk openly and freely. He had me experience his drowning with him,” she says. The Basic Instinct star wants to show the works in “intimate, ethereal” settings where people will view the works without their mobile phones. A case of otherworldly art.
