Tate has condemned a “reader offer” in the Independent newspaper for prints of Turner’s Venice. On sale are reproductions of two of his Venetian seascapes, at £195 each (£295 framed). The edition is of 650 each, so if all sold, they would bring in over £240,000. The ad suggests that the offer is linked with the gallery. Last month Tate said: “Tate strongly disassociates itself from the print offer... We are also concerned about the use of images of works from the Tate collection without permission and are seeking to clarify the situation with the company concerned.”
