Exhibition at Lyon's Musée des Beaux Arts rings in fifty years since Vuillard's death

A retrospective of this scale could not have happened without Nantes' Musée des Beaux Arts and the Caixa de Pensiones lending their assistance

One hundred paintings and fifty drawings make up the large retrospective organised by the Musée des Beaux Arts in Lyon, the Caixa de Pensiones in Madrid and the Musée des Beaux Arts in Nantes to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Vuillard.

The exhibition provides an overall picture of his activities, from the Nabis works to the late portraits. It aims to highlight his later works which have often been under-valued.

There will be no other exhibitions of any size in France to mark the occasion. It will also be the first retrospective of his work since 1968.

The curators of the exhibition are Ann Dumas, of the Brooklyn Museum and Guy Cogeval of the Louvre. It is at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon until 19 November.

The catalogue contains essays by André Chastel, Henri-Claude Cousseau, Dominique Brachlianoff and the curators, and is published by Flammarion (240 pp, 350 ill.).
