The art of Forties America at the MoMA

Exploring the influence of immigrants and how the world moved on from the war

The turmoil brought about by world war in the Forties had a positive affect on the art scene in the United States where an influx of refugees to a safe haven brought with it many gifted artists. The Museum of Modern Art has brought together works from all six curatorial departments to document this period: the early flourishing of American abstract painting, the recognition of Latin American art and artistic activity in Europe during and after the war. Also called “The Art of the Forties”, the catalogue is edited and introduced by Riva Castleman. The show runs from 24 February until 30 April.
