Between March 1992 and January 1993 the Tate Gallery Liverpool devoted a small exhibition to “Myth making: Abstract Expressionist painting from the United States”. The gallery held an accompanying one day symposium, the papers of which have now been published. The thirteen papers include: Ann Gibson, “Norman Lewis in the Forties”; Fred Orton, “Footnote One: the Idea of the Cold War”; and Nancy Jachec, “Disorder and Insensitivity: on the concept of experience in Abstract Expressionist painting”. Published by Liverpool University Press with the Tate Gallery, Liverpool, the book has 230 pages and costs £22.50.
