The first major retrospective of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright to benefit from full access to the archives of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, opens at the Museum of Modern Art on 20 February (until 20 May). “Frank Lloyd Wright: architect” will include more than 500 works and covers the span of his seventy year career. The exhibition aims to demonstrate not only his influence as an architect, but also the sociological changes his work effected on the daily patterns of life in the US during the twentieth century. The exhibition is organised by Terence Riley, chief curator and Peter Reed, assistant curator in the department of architecture and design, in cooperation with the Foundation which is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. The exhibition will present 190 of Wright’s buildings and projects and includes 350 drawings, many of them rarely seen over the last thirty years. Thirty scale models, six full-scale wall constructions, photographs and architectural fragments complete the display. There is an accompanying book comprising essays by a group of scholars edited by the curators, price $60 hardback.
