According to a statement by Iraq’s chief archaeologist, Rabi’ya al-Qaisy, the Iraqi Museum has recovered more than 5,000 Sumerian artefacts, including cylinder seals and clay tablets inscribed in cuneiform, from three sites in southern Iraq. The museum rushed a team of archaeologists to the site following reports that antiquities smugglers were active in the area.
