For the first time since Joseph Beuys’s death fourteen years ago, Italy is devoting a monographic show to the master of fat and felt. Unfortunately Beuys will not be there in all his honeyed glory, giving guided tours to a dead hare, but the cult of artistic personality promoted by the German sculptor, performance artist, professor and political activist has been honoured in “Six rooms for Beuys”, at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Piazza San Marco (until 8 October). Curated by Helmut Friedel, director of the Lenbachhaus in Munich and art historian Giovanni Jovane, it includes 150 works spanning Beuys’s career from the 60s to the mid-80s, and is divided into drawings, sculptures and installations, as well as sections devoted to “atmosphere”, “nature”, and “the artist’s imagination”.
