Mark Haworth-Booth, senior curator of photographs at the V&A, retired last month after almost 35 years at the museum. Mr Haworth-Booth (60) has been instrumental in maintaining the profile of the national collection of photography which consists of more than 300,000 images. His key acquisitions include the purchase of 390 photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson in 1978 and 23 works by Alfred Stieglitz donated in 2003. In 2002, he inaugurated a new permanent photography gallery at the museum. He will curate a “Leigh Miller” centenary retrospective opening at the V&A in 2007. He is succeeded by Martin Barnes (33) who joined the V&A in 1995 and has been curator of photographs since 2001. For Mark Haworth-Booth’s article on Henri Cartier-Bresson, see p.30.
