The US banker and philanthropist David Rockefeller has pledged $100 million to the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the largest donation the institution has ever received. MoMA will receive the money after his death. Mr Rockefeller, 89, Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees, plans to give MoMA $5 million a year in the meantime. The donation will go towards the museum’s general endowment fund, currently standing at about $475 million. The museum’s director, Glenn D. Lowry, says the gift will be used to fund educational programmes and future exhibitions.
