Christie’s first online-only sale of works from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts realised $2.3m last month with impressive sell-through rates of 99% by lot and value. The sale, which began on 26 February and ended on 5 March, attracted 263 bidders, generating 1,500 bids from 36 countries. Each successful lot was issued with a certificate of provenance, rather than a certificate of authenticity (the foundation has never authenticated works, though the Andy Warhol Authentication Board, which closed in 2011, used to). A 1964 colour lithograph described in the catalogue as “presumably unique” proved popular. The work, I Love Your Kiss Forever Forever, was estimated at $3,000 to $5,000, attracted 52 bids, and sold for $112,500.
