New South American fair needs more time to prepare for its London debut

The Immigrants Art Show, an art fair that was due to launch in east London in October, has been postponed until October 2016. The new venture was a merger between Pinta London, the art fair dedicated to Latin American contemporary art, and The Immigrants, a curatorial project established by the Milan-based dealer and artist Federico Luger in Venice in 2013. Alejandro Zaia, the chairman of Pinta London, says the reason for postponement is simple: they were not ready for “such an ambitious project”, particularly as Zaia also inaugurated the Spanish art fair, Art Marbella, in July. However, before the announcement in September, there had been concerns that the market for Latin American art in London had become flat; as a result, The Immigrants Art Show was due to open its doors to artists of all nationalities, while also keeping a distinct South American flavour with 20 galleries from the region.
