Visitors to Regent’s Park will be able to enjoy works in the Frieze Sculpture Park long after the Frieze tents have been dismantled, thanks to an extended three-month run. Seven of the 15 sculptures will remain on view until 17 January 2016, after the fair secured planning permission from Camden Council and the Royal Parks for the first time since 2005. They include Richard Serra’s Lock (1976-77), The Dappled Light of the Sun IV (2015) by Conrad Shawcross and Carol Bove’s Open Screen (2014).
Clare Lilley, the curator of Frieze Sculpture Park, tells us that a letter published in the Evening Standard newspaper last year, calling for the exhibition to “stay all year round”, was a “catalyst” for the extended run. The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, welcomed the move, describing the outdoor show as a “terrific” free attraction. “Extending its run means that many more Londoners and tourists will be able to see it,” Johnson says.
