Pacific Standard Time: a logistical nightmare?

As the Getty Foundation prepares to distribute its second round of grants for Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, it will have to factor in a seemingly innocuous—but daunting—factor: shipping. “It is very challenging to get loans from South American countries,” says Joan Weinstein, the deputy director of the Getty Foundation. Many Southern California institutions are negotiating with Latin American partners for the first time as they prepare for the Getty-sponsored collaboration, scheduled to open in 2017. In June, the Getty held a workshop in which experienced shippers and registrars walked participants through the head-spinning rules and regulations for each country. “In Peru it actually takes the signature of the president to sign a loan agreement,” Weinstein says.
