The US artist Mark Dion returned from El Salvador last week, having travelled to the Central American country as part of a new exchange programme called Y.ES. The initiative has been set up by the Miami-based art patrons Mario Cader-Frech and his husband, Robert S. Wennett, who have been supporting artists from El Salvador for 15 years. Dion visited artists’ studios, giving the artists feedback on their work and advice on how to show and sell their art. The initiative will also support exhibitions, publications and workshops for artists, according to Claire Breukel, the director of Y.ES.
A show of work by artists from El Salvador, drawn from the Mario Cader-Frech collection, is now open to the public in the Herzog & de Meuron-designed building at 1111 Lincoln Road.
