Catinca Tabacaru Gallery has transformed its Lower East Side space into an Orthodox  Christian chapel for a group exhibition titled “Devotion” (until 17 January 2016). The décor includes a selection of contemporary ritual objects—a rug, wall paintings and a “rood screen”, which typically separates a church’s nave from the choir—by artists including Roxy Paine, Joyce Pensato, Elizabeth Kley, Joe Brittain, Rico Gatson and others. The gallery is also showing 17th- and 18th-century icons from Russia and Romania, which are owned by Tabacaru’s family.
