Floods, fires, hurricanes, earthquakes and civil wars are a few of the topics on the agenda for the 44th annual meeting of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works in Montreal (13-17 May). Held in conjunction with the Canadian Association for Conservation, the conference is themed around preparing for disasters and “confronting the unexpected in conservation”, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Great Flood of 1966 in Florence—a disaster that resulted in a “conservation revolution”. A report on the conference will appear in the June issue of The Art Newspaper.
