Nada kicks it up a notch

The contemporary and emerging arts non-profit, New Art Dealers’ Alliance (Nada) is teaming up with the crowd-funding platform Kickstarter for its third annual Nada Presents, a programme of events and talks, at this year’s Nada New York fair, due to open next week (2-5 March)—and it will be quite a drag. The events—particularly performance-heavy this year, says Nada’s executive director, Heather Hubbs—include a series Contemporary Drag, which features an eponymous revue performance on Thursday, 2 March and talks with drag heavyweights like the New York club kid Lady Bunny. A celebration of the radical and gender-defying art form is “very timely” and is a “good pairing and a good message” to go along with Nada’s donation of half of this year’s fair ticket proceeds to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Hubbs says. Social and political issues are at the core of Nada Presents out of drag as well, such as a conversation on 3 March on free arts education with members of the quirky Brooklyn-based artist collective and arts education non-profit, Bruce High Quality Foundation (BHQF), which will also present a booth at the fair with Kickstarter. Those seeking to shed their cares, meanwhile, will enjoy Loss, a song performance later that day by the “rock’n’roll therapist” Paul McMahon, who “will gladly make up a song on the spot to cure what ails you”, the Nada Presents programme list promises.
