The art of laughter according to Peter Liversidge (and Phill Jupitus)

The mischief-making artist Peter Liversidge is asking comedians, DJs and musicians to come along to his new show in London—and be the works of art. The exhibition, As Sculpture (until 29 October), straddles two sites: CGP London and its satellite space Dilston Grove in Bermondsey, with the latter venue home to a performance-based programme. The comics and DJs will appear as if they were “found objects, responding to the architecture and sound of the space”, the organisers say. And the comic touches do not end there. The exhibition includes a recent durational performance filmed at Tate Modern featuring the high-profile comedian Phill Jupitus telling jokes written by staff at the Royal London Hospital. Liversidge even plans to host a day of stand-up comedy 21 October. “You hear this laughter, and it’s such a good way to engage with other works in the show such as some polaroid works and a sculpture made of 1,000 branches,” Liversidge tells us.
