If you want to help the homeless this Christmas, why not buy a plate emblazoned with bespoke works created by the japester artist duo Gilbert & George. The established, eccentric artist duo have produced two 12"plates in stand-out technicolour designs, entitled Rosy and On the Bench, in partnership with the Stoke-On-Trent pottery Duchess China,. A snip at £125 each, proceeds will go towards helping the homeless. The ingenious initiative, known as Double Helpings, was conceived by the Canvas Cafe, a social enterprise based in Spitalfields, east London, which has fed more than 1,800 homeless men and women at the Crisis Skylight Centre this year. "Longtime Spitalfield residents Gilbert & George got involved with the project as they are particularly sympathetic to the realities of how vulnerable the homeless are, forming long-standing personal relationships with some of East London's rough sleepers," a statement says. The arresting plate pics are adorned with a composite work made up of images recently shown at Spruth Magers gallery in Los Angeles. So go on, cough up for Christmas and buy G&G's exquisite crockery.
