Collector threatens to withdraw works from Gran Guardia Palace, Verona

Claims that four pieces have been damaged

The Italian collector Count Panza di Biumo, 82, is threatening to withdraw 44 works on loan to the Gran Guardia Palace in Verona. Speaking to our sister paper Il Giornale dell’Arte, he said that “the loan contract of 1998 has not been respected. The new left-wing council has shown no interest in the works and the collection has never been open to the public.” He claims that “some four works have been damaged in Verona: three pieces by Phil Sims and a Ross Rudel painting”. Verona town council declined to comment. Meanwhile, the Count has donated 51 works by contemporary artists on a long-term basis to the 17th-century Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo, Modena.
