Gagosian beaten to the punch

Star Indian artist Subodh Gupta has secured European representation with the London and Zurich gallery Hauser & Wirth, which is taking on the artist from next year and will present a Gupta show in London in 2009. His US gallery remains Jack Shainman in New York.

Hauser & Wirth is believed to have beaten off stiff competition from the likes of the Gagosian gallery.

Meanwhile the artist’s highest price at auction was set at ArtCurial in Paris on 3 April when Vehicle for the Seven Seas, 2004, sold for E502,330 ($785,243) against an estimate of E140,000-E180,000, to an unidentified French buyer in the room.
