Sprüth Magers sees carpet fly off stand

The work of Thea Djordjadze, from the republic of Georgia, often refers to the culture of the Caucasus region, such as the carpet in Tickle the sketch (2012), which sold at Sprüth Magers (C8) for $65,000 to a European collector. The artist, now based in Berlin, has her first solo show in New York at MoMA PS1 (until 29 August).

Pope.L’s Pop-Tarts: serious shelf-life

Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects (C25) sold three drawings on Pop-Tarts by the artist Pope.L, including Quad Figure (Four Tarts) (1997-98). The tarts ($8,000 each) “have so many preservatives that they have maintained their integrity for nearly 20 years”, says the gallery’s director Kevin Scholl.

Dominique Lévy nails Uecker sale

A US collector now owns Günther Uecker’s 2m-high work Kreis Kreise (1987), sold by Dominique Lévy Gallery (B64). Priced at $1.25m, the work is made of painted nails on painted board, making it a heavy-weight purchase in every sense.
