British art collector Robert Wylde is suing the Gagosian Gallery over Mark Tansey’s 1981 painting, The Innocent Eye Test. Wylde claims that in 2009 the gallery sold him the Tansey piece for $2.5m, despite the fact that the Metropolitan Museum of Art already owned 31%. Virginia Coleman, a spokeswoman for Gagosian, said that the gallery would “vigorously defend itself” and declined to comment further. Meanwhile, in March, a US District judge ruled in favour of photographer Patrick Cariou in his copyright lawsuit against Gagosian artist Richard Prince.
